• In Hidalgo County, Texas, Michael Caddell, Cynthia Chapman, and John Scofield settled a product liability lawsuit against General Motors pertaining to the air bag system of its 1992 Geo Metro. Plaintiffs alleged that the Metro's air bag caused a driver's death following a side impact collision; the air bag should not have deployed or, in the alternative, the Metro's air bag system was overly‑aggressive.
• Michael Caddell, Cynthia Chapman, and George Nino were recognized by H Texas magazine as among "Houston's Best Lawyers for the People."
AUGUST 2005
• Michael Caddell, Cynthia Chapman, and John Scofield, in conjunction with several other law firms, successfully resolved a national class action against Kia Motors America, Inc. The class action pertained to Kia's misstatement of the horsepower on its Optima for the 2001 and 2002 model years. The resulting settlement provided a cash fund for the benefit of the class.
• Michael Caddell and John Scofield settled a Dallas County action arising from a construction accident. Under the weight of wet concrete, an elevated platform collapsed on top of a construction worker resulting in injuries that ultimately caused his death. In less than a year after the incident, the firm resolved most of the family's claims, and the firm successfully concluded the litigation within 18 months of the accident.
• In May 2005, a South‑Tex Concrete truck rear‑ended a sedan in Edinburg, Texas and killed two men. Retained soon after the accident, Michael Caddell, Cesar Perez, and John Scofield immediately filed suit. The firm obtained favorable settlement terms for the family, and a Hidalgo County court approved the confidential settlement within three months after the collision.
• Cory Fein was again named a "Rising Star"; by Texas Monthly magazine. Mr. Fein has been recognized by the magazine every year since the award's inception.
OCTOBER 2005
• Michael Caddell, Cynthia Chapman, George Nino, and John Scofield were recognized by Texas Monthly magazine as "Super Lawyers." Mr. Caddell and Ms. Chapman have been named "Super Lawyers" every year since the award's inception. For the second year, Mr. Scofield was designated as a "Super Lawyer."
